MITSUBISHI’S popular Outlander is set for another spurt with the 2008 range sporting Active Stability Control with Traction Control (ASTC) on all models.

The SUVs also get other safety, design and technology upgrades.

Since its release in October, 2006, Outlander sales have grown almost 80per cent to year to date.

All variants in the latest line-up are available in seven-seat layout.

Other changes are a manual shift version of the entry level 2.4litre LS and luxury versions of the XLS and VRX models, comprising new styling highlights such as chrome grille surround, sidesills and door handles and new 18-inch wheels.

All versions get revised trim treatment, equipment levels and instrumentation.

The range has grown to six variants with a choice of five- or seven-seat layout.

In addition to the ASTC, the 2008 Outlander four-cylinder LS variants add 16-inch alloy wheels and automatic airconditioning to its specification list. Internal design updates include new silver detail to the instrument panel and new door trim with cloth inserts and ornamentation.

LS variants offer standard five-speed manual transmission or optional Continuously Variable Transmission. Side and curtain airbags are available as an extra on five-seat models.

XLS variants get similar interior upgrades and add standard side and curtain airbags, a new voice-activated Bluetooth telephone system and new sport mesh seat trim.

XLS Luxury variants have seven-seat layout and offer HID headlights with auto-levelling and headlight washers, Rockford Fosgate audio package and a dusk-sensing headlight and rain-sensing wiper package.

The V6 versions get revised 16-inch alloy wheels while VRX models benefit from the new hands-free Bluetooth system and new sports mesh seat trim. The newly added VRX Luxury includes the full complement of Outlander features, plus sunroof, rear seat entertainment system and leather seats.

The vehicles all retain the drivetrains from the previous models.

LS, XLS and XLS Luxury models are powered by the 125kW 2.4litre 16-valve twin-cam Mivec and the V-prefixed models get the 162kW 3.0litre 24-valve V6 Mivec.

Pricing for the L range starts at ,490 and the V range from ,490.
