ORGANISED chaos rules the wild and wonderful world of former Perth rocker-cum-designer Morgan Joanel.
Caught in a creative spell, the 25-year-old beauty who now calls Sydney home is busy juggling a music career, having recently launched her debut single Devil’s in the Detail, and a full-time fashion vocation with new label MojoMade – understandably things must get a little crazy at times.
“Some people in the industry freak out that I have so much going on but I don’t worry,” Morgan shared with the Weekly.
“For a while I was just making music and I was doing that for a long time. I learnt all the things that went with playing a show, setting up and promoting a gig, touring nationally etcetera and I wanted to keep moving forward.
“It’s the same with designing fashion – I like to push boundaries. Also, If I’m working on just one thing I can’t focus on it properly, but if I move away from say music for half a day and work on fashion, it inspires me to come back again to music.”
Melody came first for Morgan, who played acoustic gigs at Perth cafes and bars before landing a record deal last year and then fashion followed – in a big way.
“I started a style blog in March, which drew a lot of attention,” she said. “MTV Style featured me as the style blogger of the week and everything kept snowballing.
“Next, I was approached by the head designer at Aussie label Azuki who wanted to work on a new collection with me. I already had a bunch of sketches of garments, artwork and graphic designs – exploring my own dream collection – and they said, ‘let’s push this out.’”
Morgan’s 14-piece collection is available at Myer with a free download of her single.
