DESPITE having no experience in design or retail, Wembley mum Lyndal Simmons was confident taking over Perth kids’ swimwear label Ironboy and Ironchick.
Her three-year-old son Jack received a few pieces as a gift, and she was impressed by their quality, practicality and cuteness.
So, when the opportunity recently arose to buy the company catering for babies to nine-year-olds, she jumped.
“After 20 years in a corporate background, I came back to Perth from Melbourne (where she lived with her husband for eight years) in need of a change,” Lyndal told Western Suburbs Weekly.
“A Perth mother began the business two years ago with the idea of making a line that was chlorine-proof and durable. With three children to look after, she simply didn’t have the time to devote to it so she sold it – and that’s where I come in.
“It was a simple decision to make because the product is so good. It’s easy to sell, garnering plenty of positive feedback from happy customers.”
Lyndal is keen to try her hand at design with the next line, which she said was both an exciting and daunting prospect.
“It could be a good year away before my creations – which will probably head towards more casual wear incorporating boardshorts – come out because I need to settle into this new range,” she said.
“I haven’t done any designing before but I consider myself creative and I’m dying to get into it.”
Ironboy and Ironchick items are stocked at Cottesloe stores Fun’s Back and Sports Fever.
