WHEN you meet these gorgeous ladies Jennifer Stefanelli and Janine Day – co-owners of Tokay – you can understand why they run a very successful business.
They exude and radiate everything that the fashion world has forgotten – service with a smile.
I spoke to them at length and found that Janine was very camera shy, so Jennifer stepped in to save the day.
The pair opened on Beaufort Street Mt Lawley 12 years ago because of the central location, great ambience and growing area.
Tokay has a decor with a French provincial feel, adorned with clothes for all occasions.
Stocking only their own label with an inherited love of silks, the fabric skims over the body and contours for a luxurious feel and fit.
Jennifer studied design at Tafe and privately worked in fashion for 20 years. She was a school teacher in her past life, thus retaining important people skills.
All Tokay designs are locally manufactured in Perth by an amazing crew of women.
“Keeping all our manufacturing in WA means we can control our end product better,” Janine said.
“Our product is always changing, as does fashion, but we always try and remain focused on who we are designing for, which at the end of the day is women,” Jennifer added.
The growth of Tokay – now in four stores – is testament to the two ladies’ vision, which also combines an alteration service at their studio.
The girls’ top tips for dressing women is finding the garment that flatters your best asset.
Don’t try to mix and match – buy a beautiful piece that looks stunning on you, and wear it often.
- Tokay stores are in Subiaco, Nedlands, Mt Lawley and South Perth.
