Outdoor designs to flaunt biggest asset

MATTHEW Coleman knows how to add value to your biggest investment – your home.

His company, Next Generation Patios & Pergolas, combines form and function with designer flair to create outdoor structures that flaunt modern architectural style.

Corrugated metal patios with skylights are a thing of the past for Mr Coleman, who offers only the latest in outdoor living products.

“While there’s nothing wrong with the older-style patios, I prefer to explore new technologies and offer the next generation of roof sheeting,” he told Residential.

“Additions can devalue a home and a lot of the time you see a big patio on the side of a house that looks like a shed.

“We always strive to create an amazing feature that adds value.”

Dome, gable and flat patios with steel or timber frames span the interior of Next Generation‘s Osborne Park showroom in an impressive display of quality craftsmanship.

Roofing options include beautiful gloss timber-lined alfresco areas, which are insulated, as well as flat sheet polycarbonate panels that allow light to flood in, reflect heat and offer protection from harmful UV radiation.

Mr Coleman has been involved in the construction of more than 1000 patios for the domestic and commercial sectors, with a long list of happy clients that includes builders, Western Power, town councils and the Water Corporation.

He said there were many key design considerations for each project, such as the home’s features.

“It’s important to consider the home’s style, patio location, angle of the sun, weather coming in, and the way it will look out at different aspects because patios can frame water features, for example,” Mr Coleman said.

“You also don’t want to jeopardise views, or make adjacent rooms dark and gloomy.

“We also ensure the home’s guttering and drainage are adequate, and marry the patio’s gutters with those of the house.”

Once a customer’s requirements have been gathered and the design considerations assessed, Next Generation provides a quote, drafts easy-to-understand plans and seeks council approval.

A patio takes about three to four weeks to complete after council permission is granted, with an emphasis on customer service and quality control throughout.

Mr Coleman said he took great pride in his company’s projects and enjoyed seeing the end results.

It seems product quality and longevity, designs that won’t date and sterling customer service are all part of the next generation of patios.
