SNAP up a bargain plant, enjoy a leisurely Devonshire tea and support a worthy cause at the annual fundraiser of the Amanda Young Foundation this month.
Barry and Lorraine Young will open Amanda’s Garden to the public on Thursday, October 28, Saturday, October 30 and Sunday, October 31.
The garden is open each year to raise funds to help reduce deaths in WA from meningococcal disease and support survivors.
Mrs Young said faithful volunteers also came out of the woodwork to help tend the garden and get the stalls set up in time, including Gosnells Rotary which runs a sausage sizzle over the open- day weekend.
“Brian and Joan Glenister come from Dianella every Tuesday and have done for the past eight years,” she said.
“Brian is Mr Fix-It and does repairs about the place and builds benches for the nursery and Joan has green fingers and thumbs. We couldn’t do this without them.”
The Youngs began the foundation in 1998 after the death of their 18-year-old daughter, Amanda, from meningococcal septicaemia.
The garden will be open from 10am to 4.30pm each day and admission is $5, with proceeds to the Amanda Young Foundation.
The garden can be found at the junction of Matison and Margaret streets in Southern River.
