WALU’S patio furniture isn’t manufactured – it’s engineered to last.
Owner Hans Ilse, who is an engineer by trade, told Residential that he knew what he wanted in his products and the factory processes it took to create quality pieces.
“I have visited every single factory and with my background, I can guarantee that the furniture has been made using the correct processes,” he said.
“You can’t see it, but there’s an aluminium frame underneath here,” he continued, referring to the all-weather wicker range.
“The frame has been powder-coated and it has been done in a certain way for corrosion protection.”
UV-resistant polyethylene fibres which look just like natural wicker are then woven on to the strong, lightweight frame, resulting in a beautifully-crafted piece that can withstand the elements.
For traditional and contemporary home exteriors, WALU also stocks Outdoor Lifestyle’s quality cast aluminium furniture, and stunning dining and coffee tables made from teak or eco-friendly, reclaimed sleeper wood, including recycled jarrah, rhodesian teak and kiaat wood.
Mr Ilse, who was born and bred in South Africa, owns Outdoor Lifestyle’s Cape Town factory, which produces the cast aluminium furniture that is sold throughout Australia, Europe and the US.
He joined his brother in the furniture industry after working as an engineer for many years.
Last January, Mr Ilse migrated with his wife and two sons to Australia, where his parents and sister live.
Within six months of arriving in WA, he started operating WALU, offering an exclusive range of superior quality patio furniture at manufacturer-direct prices.
Mr Ilse said his designers considered European trends and customer feedback to create furniture that people wanted.
His most popular products include light brown and grey wicker chairs that are made in Indonesia, cast aluminium tea-for-two table settings which are perfect for small balconies, and character sleeper wood tables that are a delightful combination of old and new.
Mr Ilse said each range suited different outdoor environments.
“Even if a table is made from the best quality teak, you’ re still going to be sanding it down and oiling it every season,” he said.
“Wood furniture should be featured under a covered patio. If you need something to withstand the elements, the wicker and cast aluminium ranges are waterproof.”
WALU’s furniture is available in a variety of colours, styles and sizes, with customers able to mix and match chairs, table tops and bases to create the ultimate patio setting.
Warranties are offered on the wicker and cast aluminium ranges, and all the furniture is recyclable.
WALU’s showroom is located at Unit 2, 49 Guthrie Street, Osborne Park.
