THE owner of a Karratha tavern has been fined $6000 for illegally employing children.

Raydale Holdings, which trades as the Tambrey Tavern and Function Centre, pleaded guilty on two counts in the Perth Industrial Magistrates Court on Thursday, the WA Department of Commerce said.

The company had employed two 14-year-old boys to collect cutlery, crockery and empty glasses at the tavern.

The courts found one boy had worked had five shifts and another had worked 14, including a Friday night shift finishing at 12.20am.

Under the Children and Community Services Act 2004, it is illegal to employ children under 15 years to work in the hotel and tavern industry.
