A POLICE officer and father of three who was bashed at a nightclub on New Year's Eve has died in hospital.
Northern Territory's Sergeant Brett Meredith, 39, was admitted to Royal Darwin Hospital with serious head injuries after he was bashed when he tried to intervene in a fight at Katherine's Club 23 while off duty.
Surgeons performed emergency surgery for a fractured skull and swelling to the brain on Friday, but NT Police Commissioner John McRoberts confirmed that the life support had been switched off.
