SEVEN WA boys joined a team of other young Australian Rules football players on a trip to South Africa last week.
The boys, including Armadale resident Jermaine Miller-Lewis, are a part of the first School Sport Australia AFL Schoolboys Tour, after being selected for outstanding performances in the National Schools Championships last year.
Department of Education director of sport Peter Smith said the tour would include games against three local teams.
“The tour is a development and education tour,” he said.
“The boys will learn a lot about the history and culture of South Africa. It is also an opportunity for the AFL to promote the sport in South Africa, which is seen as a future breeding ground for AFL players.”
Smith is accompanying the 24-member team on the two-week tour, which is being led by coach Ray Barrett (Lockridge Senior High School).
