KNOWN down at the Cannington Greyhound track as a “freak dog”, Miata will raise a few eyebrows when she enters the track on Saturday.

The red fawn greyhound has the track record over 530m, 642m and 715m at Cannington and has won 15 races from only 17 starts.

Punters will be hoping she extends this winning streak when she enters the gates for the Cannington Galaxy event at the weekend.

Her Oakford owner and trainer, Paul Stuart, OK will also be hoping for this.

Miata’s earnings currently stand at $56,000, with $17,500 going to charity.

While her stature at the track has grown since her first win in May last year, Mr Stuart said she was just a regular dog outside the arena.

“When I selected her as a pup she was really just like any other greyhound, and really, she is still just like any other dog,” he said.

“She receives the same training as other dogs I train and gets some really good food but this isn’t any different from what the other dogs get.”

“After she races in Cannington, she will be going to Melbourne where she will meet faster dogs,” Mr Stuart said.

“I know her winning record won’t last forever, but it is great for now and hopefully she can continue challenging when she goes over east.”
