A GROUP of local Little League baseballers have reached uncharted territory.

The little leaguers, who are part of the Perth Metro North side, are this week representing Australia at the Asia-Pacific Regional Championships in Taiwan.

North Coast Ball Club’s Tama Pihama along with the Wanneroo Giants’ Gyles Baker, Connor Dobson, Byron Armstrong, Jackson Riley and Dawson Summers, are among the squad of 14 championship players.

They will take on 10 of the best teams in the Asia-Pacific region including the national champion teams from South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and New Zealand.

Having normally played in front of a crowd of fewer than 50, the budding Perth baseballers are in for a surprise, with coach Murray Kempton expecting crowds of more than 500 at the tournament.

They have been training at Mirrabooka and Carine for up to 12 hours a week for the past month.

The Asia-Pacific regional championship runs until Sunday, July 8.
