WA beach volleyball team Josh Court and Michael Snart have won the men’s under-23 Australian Beach Volleyball Championships.

All four semi-finalists were WA pairings, with Court and Snart beating Jayson Fox and Mark Van Winsen in the gold medal match by two sets to one at Adelaide’s Glenelg Beach.

In the bronze medal match, Michael Prindiville and Mark McDowell proved too good for their WA compatriots Michael Ruggiero and Brett Lewington.

It was a remarkable effort from Court (21) and Snart (20), a pair who only played together for the first time about four months ago.

Court (Applecross) began playing while in Year 12 at Aquinas College, while Snart (Kingsley) has eight years of experience behind him.

Court said he and Snart were good indoor players before deciding to move across to beach volleyball.

The pair have Olympic aspirations but Court said the 2016 Games were more likely than 2012, because they needed more experience at an international level.

Next month, the pair will enter the national championships before competing in an international event later this year.

In the meantime, the pair will continue working with coach Marty Suan and strength and conditioning trainer Andrew Ivey.
