CITY Beach tennis coach Kurt Robinson is on a mission to expose Perth’s tennis talent to the clay court by offering his services at the University of WA Tennis Club in Mt Claremont.

Robinson developed his game on the grass and hard courts at the Reabold Tennis Club in Floreat as a youngster, then took over his parents’ coaching business about 16 years ago.

However, this week he will relocate to the clay surface at UWA.

Robinson said Tennis Australia was sending its top junior players to Europe just so they could experience the clay surface.

“UWA is the only clay court club in WA. It’s been there for a few years but it’s just been opened up to the public,” he said.

Robinson toured Europe as a player in his early playing days and coached there for seven years – all on clay courts.

“The first time you get on there it can be a bit slippery under the feet, but you only need a few hits on there to get used to it,” he said.
