LOCAL wakeboarder Kuri Wickliffe is excited about competing with the big names at the Eyres Action Sports Games in March.
Tourism Minister Kim Hames and Mayor Paddi Creevey launched the games in Mandurah last week.
The launch was followed by a wakeboarding demonstration by Wickliffe and Marcey Wellstead, plus a waterski demonstration by Ryan Green.
The world’s best waterskiers and wakeboarders from 24 countries will travel to Mandurah for the International Waterski and Wakeboarding Federation (IWWF) World Cup Stop.
The line-up includes a national BMX and skateboarding competition and an international freestyle motocross shootout.
Freestyle motocross rider Josh Sheehan encouraged young riders to get involved in the sport.
“They definitely don’t have to start off big, they can start off small,” he said.
“When doing tricks, begin by taking your hand off and challenge yourself.”
National champion Green hopes to give his rivals a run for their money.
“I will know where they are at and have a good feeling of how each competitor is performing,” he said.
Wellstead is all set to put on a good show in March.
“I will just try to go big, poke my grabs out and make them stylish,” she said.
The games will run in line with the Mandurah Crab Fest from March 16 to 18.
