CHASE Bourne was born to run – he is just eight years old and already has more medals than he can carry around his neck.

The Year 3 student, from Winthrop, is one of our most promising junior runners.

This year he completed his second season of little athletics for Brentwood Little Athletics Club and in the process broke five Melville Little Athletics Centre records, and two Dale (Armadale) Athletics Centre records.

The third of five brothers said his favourite events were the sprints (100m, 200m and 300m) and hurdles.

The budding athlete is in the running to win the HBF Junior Sports Heroes award in the inspirational category.

His dad, a member of Melville Little Athletics Centre, nominated Chase for the award because he said he was a leader at the club.

β€œHe set some goals at the beginning of the season and really achieved a lot.”
