A NEW trend of criminal activity called ‘fridging,’ stealing alcohol and other goods from the rear of a home, has increased in The Vines area.

Ellenbrook police charged seven youths with 30 stealing and trespass offences in relation to a series of incidents in December and they will face the Midland Juvenile Justice Team in the coming weeks.

Acting Senior Sergeant Glenn Dowding said properties in The Vines were targeted by thieves because they was close to the golf course and often had limited and unsecure fencing.

“I urge the residents of The Vines and surrounding suburbs to be mindful of their home security,” he said.

“Locking exterior fridges and installing sensor lights will help minimise the susceptibility of becoming a victim.”

Police urge residents to report any suspicious activity to police by calling 131 444.
