IS this Perth’s first $100 pizza?

Some locals who normally wouldn’t even spend $20 on a pizza to feed a family of four might baulk at the cost.

However, the $100 pizza at Gee’s Pizza, in Forrestfield, is indeed something extra special. The precious-as-gold pizza fillings include lobster, smoked salmon, caviar and buffalo mozzarella.

Business owner Gee Whitcombe  says the $100 pizza is an attempt to take the humble pizza to a whole new level.

The pizza is the equivalent of a sit-down restaurant meal, he says.

“I wanted to raise the stakes and stir things up a bit,” Mr Whitcombe said.

“If people go out for a lobster meal, they would spend the same amount.”

Mr Whitcombe said while he sells only “a couple” of $100 pizzas each month, there were regular customers who continued to come in to his Hale Road shop to order it.

“Mostly, people order it once just to give it a try,” he said.

Mr Whitcombe also sells a more popular $50 pizza, which features wagyu beef, shaved ham, bacon strips and gourmet sausage.

“We sell four to five of them each week,” he said.

100 big ones?? Tell him he's dreaming! Rather spend $100 on a seafood
plater. Cant see why you would waste a crayfish on pizza.

Right with you, Micky Boy. Anyone who pays $100 for a pizza hasn't a clue. What a waste, having toppings like lobster - that's a delicate flesh that needs a different context far simpler that the robust flavour settings of pizza to bring the best out of it.

And any true pizza devotee knows a great pizza ain't about the toppings - it's about the base! You can't beat a margherita - a good margherita is as good as pizzas get (not to mention the best test of a pizza maker). God save us from 'gourmet' pizza toppings - and pretentious chefs along with the terribly hip-conscious and over-monied clients who encourage them.

$100 For a pizza,??I wouldn't care what it had in it, there's no way its worth $100, I reckon you must be taking the Pizza mate. What's next $500 fish 'n' chips???
