FIREFIGHTERS and veterinarians used thermal imaging to save the life of a pony that recently fell five metres down a well.

A Fire and Rescue Services spokeswoman said the incident happened in Orange Grove on Tuesday, January 31.

“At 7pm, FESA received a call for assistance for a pony that had fallen into a well,” she said.

“Four firefighters from Welshpool Fire and Rescue were despatched to the incident.

The pony, named Lucy, was found five metres down the well where a thermal imaging camera was needed, because of low light, to see into the well.

The spokesman said an additional four firefighters were sent to the scene and two veterinarians were called.

“The pony was anesthetised and then placed in a sling,” she said.

“A large crane was used to lift the pony upside-down out of the well.”

After three hours, the pony was out of the well.

The pony is in excellent health thanks to the tenacity of local firefighters
