LOCAL gamers have thrown their support behind a push to amend Australia’s classification system for video games.

More than 1400 people signed petitions at Game stores in Whitford City, Kingsway and Joondalup in June and July calling for the introduction of an R-18 classification for games.

Presently, MA15+ is the highest rating for video games, which has led to several games rated the equivalent of R-18 overseas being modified or banned from sale in Australia. Attorneys General in every state must agree on any changes to classification laws.

Game managing director Rob Lukic said more than 89,000 signatures were collected in Game stores around the country.

“Our petitioners are mums, dads, grandparents, young adults, new gamers, core gamers – everyone,” he said.
