PERTH'S recent spate of ATM explosions reached the northern suburbs this morning.

Three machines were targeted in two hours overnight, with the first two exploding in Success and Cockburn, before the most severe blast at a Westpac ATM at  Whitford City Shopping Centre, about 3.30am.

It is understood the powerful explosion was heard up to two suburbs away.

Charred pieces of the machine could be found almost 100m from the bank.

Police believe the ATMs were filled with gas and set alight.

No money was stolen.

It was the first time the bandits - who are still on the loose - had struck in the north, with three explosions last week all happening in southern suburbs.

Fed Up, Dont you think chopping hands off is a bit extreme and draconian?
I think a good long spell in prison is punishment enough!
they steal valuables and prison steals years of their lives, fair trade I think.

Fed Up With Crime In Perth :( :(

Why are there no security cameras or alarm systems outside these shopping centres??? Wherever there is money or valuable items there will be thieves and opportunist. Chop their hands off when they are caught that will solve a lot of problems :)
