A QUEENS Park senior warded off a would-be robber with a saucepan last week.

Maureen Gordon answered her front door about 2.30pm to a man who said his son’s ball had come over her back fence.

“I did what most people would do and tried to be obliging by going to look for the ball,” she said.

Mrs Gordon said she closed and locked the door before going to look in her back yard.

“I have a new security lock but it is not working at the moment so I have an improvised latch which the man must have seen me fiddle with,” she said.

After quickly checking her yard from her rear door, Mrs Gordon’s better judgement prompted her to go back into her kitchen where she saw the man grab her handbag.

“I was walking back into the kitchen and saw the man there,” she said.

“I picked up a saucepan and just when the man was about to turn around I plonked the pan on his head.”

Mrs Gordon said the man tried to run off with her bag but she was able to snatch it off him before he left on a scooter.

Cannington police acting Senior-Sergeant Chris Marzo said intruders often used diversion tactics to gain access to houses.

“I would stress to people not to fight back like this lady because often it will be the resident who gets hurt,” Sgt Marzo said.

Mrs Gordon said she had acted on impulse.

“When this sort of thing happens, you don’t like to see something of yours taken,” she said.

Police are searching for the intruder, who is described as dark skinned, 163cm tall and was wearing a blue short-sleeve shirt at the time.

Good on you Maureen, its a pity you couldn't knock him out with a few more blows, and then call the cops. We all need to fight back hard and deadly, that way they will realize that they are going to be badly hurt and may think twice about doing their illegal activity.

Thatll be right,Police say dont fight back or you may be hurt, offenders are aware that the powers that be put out this line and thats why we have more and more of these types of offences. Its time the Judiciary in WA were told by their masters to serve it up to these idiots not tell the populace to kow tow to these rat bags.
