THE West Coast Pirates will join a revamped National Rugby League competition within the next few years should the game's local governing body get its way.
The WARL launched the team name and logo yesterday as part of its official NRL Franchise Bid.
Perth has not had a senior rugby league team in a national competition since the demise of the Western/Perth Reds in 1997.
The franchise is competing against several others to join an expanded NRL competition.
Chairman Richard Campbell said it was an exciting time for the game in WA.
“Even though some people may question the deviation from the established Reds, our research has shown it will be a fantastic new identity for the game," he said.
“The Reds will always be part of our heritage."
