RESIDENTS are being warned to switch off their sprinklers during the winter ban, following a dramatic increase in the number of fines already issued.
Since the annual winter sprinkler ban began three weeks ago, the Water Corporation said there had been a 250 per cent increase in the number of infringements its inspectors had issued compared to the same time last year.
More than 75 fines of $100 had been handed out since June 1 compared to 22 last year.
A Water Corporation spokesman said the results were surprising given the winter sprinkler ban was in its fourth year, and with the large amount of rain Perth has received in recent weeks.
