THE new deputy mayor of Wanneroo is Coastal ward councillor Tracey Roberts, of Quinns Rocks.

She was elected to the role at a special council meeting on Monday night.

Cr Roberts said she was pleased to have the full backing and support of the council and Mayor Jon Kelly.

“A number of people asked me prior to the meeting if I wanted to take up the role,” she said.

“I am a strong local advocate for the community, and my family have been very supportive, so I thought I would love to be elected to the role.”

A mother of two and a registrar at Peter Moyes Anglican Community School in Mindarie, Cr Roberts was first elected to the council in 2003.

She is also a member of many community groups, a Justice of the Peace and a founder of the People Against Vandalism group.

“Community safety is a particular issue I’ll continue to push the envelope on,” she said.

“I think people should be able to go out in the community, no matter if you’re a youth, a mum or dad, or a senior.

“You should be able to enjoy the community you live in.”
