A PASSION for politics and history has resulted in Professor David William Black becoming a Member of the Order of Australia.

Professor Black has been honoured for service to education and to the social sciences, particularly the promotion and preservation of the political and parliamentary history of WA.

The Leederville resident is an Emeritus Professor at Curtin University.

Other local residents awarded with a Member of the Order of Australia were: Northbridge’s Dr Patricia Giles for her service to the community through organisations that promote the interests of women; East Perth residents Dr Turab Chakera for his service to diagnostic radiology and Mr Richard Lester for his contribution to education, health and medical research organisations.

Mr Ross O’Connor, from Yokine received a Medal of the Order of Australia for services to veterans and their families through the WA Branch of the Returned and Services League of Australia
