ARSON Squad detectives are investigating a fire that gutted the Valley Growers Supermart grocery store in Kelmscott and caused extensive damage to Karizma Hair Studio and Kim Valley Restaurant yesterday.
The early morning fire at 201 Brookton Highway caused an estimated $1 million damage.
This line of shops narrowly escaped the Kelmscott-Roleystone bushfires last year which Karizma Hair Studio owner Suzzanne Wilson said came so close they melted the piping in her back room.
“We were lucky then, but we weren't so lucky this time,” she said.
“I can't see how they would fix this. It's all too far gone. The shops are ruined.
“I'm devastated, it's really hard, and I have five staff to look after as well.
“I'm trying my hardest to find somewhere to relocate, and keep the team together.”
The Fire and Emergency Services Authority of WA (FESA) got the fire report at 1.48am, and firefighters had the blaze contained and under control by 2.40am.
Two trucks from Armadale Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and six other trucks from Maddington, Armadale, Welshpool, Murdoch, and Belmont Fire and Rescue Services supported them.
Police and FESA have classified the fire's cause as 'undetermined.'
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.
