TO commemorate 95 years since the Gallipoli campaign, the Western Australian Museum will showcase a very special exhibition for all to see until May.

This company of brave men; the Gallipoli VCs is presented by the Australian War Memorial and is the first such time the Victoria Cross (VC) medals have travelled outside Canberra.

Backing from Seven Network chairman Kerry Stokes has also enabled the exhibition to be brought around Australia to the public free of charge.

The exhibition features the medals of Corporal Alexander Burton, Corporal William Dunstan, Private John Hamilton, Lance Corporal Albert Jacka, Lance Corporal Leonard Keysor, Captain Alfred Shout, Lieutenant William Symons, Second Lieutenant Hugo Throssell and Lieutenant Frederick Tubb.

Seven of the nine Victoria Cross medals awarded at Gallipoli were for bravery during the battle of Lone Pine in 1915.

Australian War Memorial director Steve Gower said the Victoria Cross was a highly prized award and the ultimate recognition for a solider.

“With this exhibition, people can only be uplifted by the soldier’s bravery and courage, and then we can contemplate what the men went through,” Mr Gower said.

“The entire nation draws pride and inspiration from these brave men, it is a wonderful and thought provoking exhibition.”

The Western Australian Museum is open daily, excluding Wednesdays, 9.30am – 5pm.
