CANNING Vale teenager Nicholas Chin is putting aside his usual luxuries to live on $2 a day.

Nicholas is challenging himself as part of the Live Below the Line fundraising program, which aims to highlight the needs of people in Third World countries who live on less than $2 a day.

The 17-year-old said it was important to learn how people in poverty lived.

“I was so shocked to think about poor people in places like Papua New Guinea who don’t have this luxury,” he said.

Nicholas said the challenge, which starts on May 7, made him reflect on life in Malaysia, where he lived for 12 years.

“Malaysians do not have the luxury of good public transport and good schools,” he said.
