GREENER pastures beckon for the officer-in-charge of Pinjarra Police Station, Sergeant Darrell Phillips-Jones.

After 15-years at the station and 32 years in the police force, Sgt Phillips-Jones is hanging up his cap this Friday .

The affable officer has a close affinity with the Shire of Murray - he was born in Pinjarra, he was a senior constable at the country station from 1988 to 1992 and has served in his current role since 1998.

Sgt Phillips-Jones said he was apprehensive about retirement but was looking forward to spending time with his wife on their 16ha property.

“We have horses and cattle and my wife has a list of 785 chores,” he laughed.

“There will be lots of work.”

A golf enthusiast, he hopes to indulge his passion more frequently and he also plans to travel overseas.

Reflecting on his time at the Pinjarra station, Sgt Phillips-Jones said there had been dramatic changes in both the town and community.

A send-off party in his honour for colleagues and close friends will be held at Pinjarra Golf Course.
