A HEART Foundation program to help seniors stay active has helped a Hamilton Hill resident overcome his arthritis and make new friends.

Fred Marland (83) said he had trouble moving due to his arthritis but taking up Heartmoves at the Cockburn Seniors Centre made all the difference.

“My arthritis was shocking before I started but within two weeks of starting I began to feel better,” he said.

“Now I really enjoy the classes, plus it gets me out.”

Heartmoves Leader Christen Pears said the program was suitable for everyone.

“It can help manage conditions such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes and arthritis,” he said.

Heartmoves costs $3, plus $3 entry for non-members.
