STUDENTS from Swan Christian College have set themselves an ambitious task for the year, with plans to fund a new school for a poverty-stricken village in Africa.

A group of students visited the village of Kantolomba in Zambia last year and teacher Ray Hockley said they were blown away by the extreme poverty of the region.

After seeing the orphaned children and their great need, the students decided to build a school for the village.

Land has been granted by the government to build the school in Kantolomba, with funds channelled through Mobile Missions Maintenance, a global mission organisation specialising in buildings for missions and churches.

Students hope to raise $25,000 to build the school, as well as find sponsors for children of the village, where $30 per month would provide a child with basic education, food and health care.

The first fundraiser, the Zambia Quiz Night, will be held on Friday May 8. To book a seat for $10, call Ray Hockley on 9374 8300
