City honours top volunteers

THE CITY of Bayswater awarded its 2010 Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards at last Tuesday’s celebrations.

Avid volunteer Barbara Hunt won the Individual Over 25 category in recognition of her dedication to community work for over 35 years.

The Morley resident’s volunteering efforts have benefited the Noranda P & C committee, Morley Scout Group and the Autumn Rivers Events Association.

Wade Perrin, of Noranda was awarded the Individual Under 25 division for his work to improve the environment through better fire management.

He developed computer software programs that can predict which locations are suitable for aerial controlled burning and has worked with FESA on introducing the system in the Kimberly.

Mr Perrin was also a mentor for the 2008 Spatial Sciences Institute Spatial Technology in School Competition.

The Bayswater branch of the Country Women’s Association won the Community Group or Event award.

The group was formed in 1953 and actively supports local activities and the work of voluntary organisations and charities.
