THE Stirling Arms in Guildford has gone from run-down to revived after couple Nick and Jess Yurisich bought the hotel in August last year.
Since buying the landmark property, they have been working hard to create a friendly, stylish and contemporary venue and opened the historic bar area and courtyard in time for New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Work will now turn to the restaurant and function room with completion planned for May this year.
Mr Yurisich was the sixth generation of his family to go to Guildford Primary School.
“My great uncle used to drink here,” Mr Yurisich said. While he now lives in Edgewater, he said that driving into the town to see family he and his wife used to comment on the potential of the hotel.
“Then we saw it was up for sale and put a bid in,” Mr Yurisich said.
The pair have worked in the hospitality industry their entire working lives and have broad experience renovating and restoring taverns and pubs.
They plan to focus on serving good food to bring families and customers back to the historic pub.
