THE Joondalup Business Association has begun lobbying the council over the location of a future multi-deck parking station.
Association president Russell Crook said the main location being discussed for the station was across from the council buildings in the block bounded by Boas Avenue, Lakeside Drive, Davidson Terrace and Reid Promenade.
“It’s just away from the core of where it is all happening,” he said. “The best place for it would be Boas Avenue and McLarty Avenue.
“That’s where the biggest pressure is on parking at the moment.”
The council resolved that the money raised from parking fares will initially go towards improving parking in the CBD.
A Joondalup Council spokesman said when it came time to build the parking station, the council would consider any new developments to the CBD and how frequently bays throughout the city were used.
“No priority has been given to any site yet,” he said.
“There are a number of potential sites for a multi-level car park under the City’s current parking strategy, including McLarty Avenue.”
Meanwhile, the city ispreparing for the introduction of paid parking and has been advertising for a parking services co-ordinator.
