CLAREMONT Quarter shoppers, workers and nearby residents are truly spoiled for choice when it comes to dining with The Lane off Gugeri Street now bustling with fun and glamorous eateries.
Adding to the plethora of good venues, including Beluga seafood restaurant, hip burger bar Grill’d and decadent chocolatier Koko Black, is new Malaysian-Singaporean restaurant Kuali Kuali at the former Saigon Bistro Asian eatery site.
Beckoning passers-by with a slick black, white and red appearance – the chairs are particularly striking – it offers an affordable menu of Malaysian-Singaporean fare courtesy of Malaysian chef Steven.
James Bong and Peter Chia opened the venture in December, making it their second eatery in the Quarter, the first being Yamato Japanese sushi train and restaurant next to Jack’s Wholefoods and Groceries.
James, a former accountant, came to Australia from Malaysia in 1996 after completing his studies.
He took the eatery’s name from the Malay word Kuali, which translates to wok.
Steve cooks up hawker-style lunch specials and elaborate dinner options.
His recommendations include Singapore chilli king prawns, salted fish and chicken fried rice.
