HOMEOWNERS can enjoy flourishing flowerbeds while staying true to the environment this summer with a new water recycling system, according to creator Wally Edwards.
Mr Edwards and his Holman Industries team in Osborne Park have invented the ARID (Automatic Recycled Irrigation Distributor) Gardener, which collects household water and automatically distributes it into the garden.
“I believe we’re entitled to have a decent garden without wasting water,” Mr Edwards said.
“Simply put, the ARID is a collection tank that you can put water in from the washing machine; it will filter the water and pump it into a drip system.
“It’s all to do with using our resources better as technology allows us to move forward.”
The Osborne Park inventor said the system was ideal for regular households as it was affordable, simple to install and reduced tap water use.
It recently went on the market for $399.
“People have come back with suggestions on how we can better it,” Mr Edwards said.
“We’re working on a second model, which will improve things and we’ll keep improving it as we go.
“A solar power pack for the ARID should be available next summer, making it completely ‘green’.”
Bassendean Town councillor and environmentalist Don Yates said Wally Edwards and his company had almost two decades of “water passion”.
“Getting the best out of any available water is a good thing,” Cr Yates said.
He added that grey-water management had its issues, but this unit could resolve them.
