Why coffee is so expensive in Perth

DO you want to know why coffee is so expensive in Perth?

We run a small café in Kensington and are fed up with the increasing fees and charges that we don't pass on.

The price of leg ham has gone up, real smoked bacon has gone up, plus the price of chicken that we get from a small ethical grower has gone up, and milk and coffee beans have all gone up.

The council has now decided that we have to pay $225 each year from now on to have our business licensed.

We already pay an exorbitant amount above a residential property in council rates.

Then the water authority sent us a new bill for drainage.

They base it on 90 per cent of the water that comes into the café.

They already charge extra rates (because we are a business) then add an “Industrial Waste” certificate fee.

Most of the water that we use goes down people's throats or onto our garden.

We use an efficient dishwasher that recycles, water, and we survive on the minimum toilets allowed by their rules.

We already pay for water use like everybody else.

Insurance is also loaded for reasons the insurers choose not to explain. Workers compensation, public liability and basic equipment insurance push the cost higher.

Then we have staff that we pay above-award rates because they are good.

So keeping the prices down is hard when you get slammed left, right and centre by Government greedy hands.

And people wonder why coffee is so expensive in Perth!

Whats realy going on is the government does not have enough money to fulfill their promisses!
More people, more infrestructure, more mental health, education workers and front line police and nurses so they need more money,. Lets get it from small business. Dont touch the big guys cause they are more important. What are we going to get next time, what Icon to admire??

GREED is the reason for high coffe prices in Perth! The Landlord wants more profit - the Council want more profit- the Water board want more, the Electricity company want more- and finally the Government want more ! Te rents charged in shopping centres is atrocious. The more profit you make the more the Landlord wants to take from you. Gordon Gecko you got it wrong "GREED " is not good !!! A fair profit for everyone.

I know the pain of small business in Perth are having as I am operating it myself. Working long hours when high operating cost is extremely high. I have a choice to work less but finding a helping hand is so hard. Before I migrate to Australia, I can employ all the people to work for me , 400 AUD per month for operating my machine and 200 AUD for cleaning my machine or even repair it. An accountant only cost 300 AUD per month !!!
Now I got to do all those job myself . I truly understand why business charge everything so high in Perth . I am happy to drink a 4.50 coffee.
High cost related to high paid.

The high price of a cup of coffee is just the litmus test of high cost of living in Perth. People like myself who can no longer afford the cup of coffee or parking fees or whatever need to do something about it. We live in what is termed a 'representative democracy' and that doesn't mean Election Days.

I totally agree however how can the owner of a coffee van parked outside Masters charge you $4.50 for a coffee in a paper cup?? what are their overheads? they probably pay a franchise fee which takes their costs higher however $4.50!!! and then they say the coffee is good so you should pay as much as the market dictates - rubbish.

I also own a cafe and agree with every thing stated above. Perth is an expensive place to live and so this means its an expensive place to run a business. Stop comparing it to melbourn the cost of goods, supply and demand dictate that things will be cheaper over there. Give us small business owners a break and be thankful we have such an amazing city full of amazing cafes and restaurants
