Protect marine life for future generations

LESS than one per cent of our waters are protected as marine parks, yet 90 per cent of WA’s marine life is found nowhere else in the world.

As a Western Australian, I feel very lucky to have unique marine life basically in my backyard.

However, if more protection is not given to our marine life it may not be there in the years to come and my children and grandchildren simply will not be able to experience it.

Not only that, but if no protection is given now there may not be a fishing industry in the future. Our environment is so fragile and it saddens me greatly that our Government does not value it enough to offer it some protection.

What Do You Think?

The government will eventually provide some protection, but it will be too late when they do.
Like most things that are threatened or endangered, the people with the power to make change will only bother to do something when there are only a couple of animals/ fish left. Then they won't bother because it costs too much.
Government thoughts are similar to this, "If it isn't cute and fury, or create lots of money for the authorities, then it isn't worth saving".

If you want to help save coral reefs, start a marine aquarium and culture corals in captivity. They look good, have bright colours and are really quite interesting. They also have cool things (worms, starfish, etc) living in and around them.
