Look at big picture

SOUTH Perth council wants the administration to scrap the former mayor’s portrait and get a new one done, just like the other boring ones.

At public expense too. What a waste.

Haven’t our elected representatives got their minds on big issues for our future? This is not one of them.

How about transport planning, economic development, child and community health, social links in our changing world and rapid population growth?

Do the councillors think we elect them as art critics?

For really good art there’s a fine exhibition at the Art Gallery of WA, which hosts the Picasso to Warhol exhibition.

I do so wish our councillors were better at community leadership and imagining the future. I wish they looked to the big picture, not the small portrait.

There is so much more that good councillors could do.

Well done Pete - you are completely right - let it be, move on and stick the portrait on the wall already.

Unfortunately as a rate payer I am concerned that I don't actually know what our councillors do. Our elected council member, well we have not heard from her since she was elected. Apparently most councillors spend most of their time dealing with neighbour disputes, which they can't even do anything about.

So Pete, when you were a councillor, what exactly was it that you all did?
