THE number of robberies and home invasions has ceased to be a joke in Ellenbrook.
It does not make sense: it’s like a ghost town most of the time with nobody on the streets, but for some reason so many homes are being invaded and good, hard-working people and pensioners robbed.
It’s not the money, bank cards, driving licences that matter, it’s our privacy and sentimental possessions that were taken such as photos and presents from relatives and/or friends who are no longer with us.
I had a home invasion on Thursday, March 25 and just one night last week I was thinking about a present I’d received for my 60th birthday that I carried around in my handbag that was stolen.
It was tiny set of bagpipes than could be hung in the car and so forth. I would be walking around with this tiny gift in my handbag and sometimes if they moved in my bag the tune Scotland the Brave would be played.
It reminded me of Scotland and of the people who sent it for my birthday. To me it meant so much but to the thieves who stole my bag it would have meant nothing.
The money in my purse would have meant so much to them: lots of beer or wine when for the rest of the week I had to struggle to buy my shopping.
I could curse and swear: I won’t but at times when I’m on my own I do get so angry because, for whatever reason, nobody is ever caught for the crimes.
How come? With so many break-ins and home invasions in our area the police have got to know or be reasonably sure who is doing it.
Yes, their hands are tied, but owing to the lack of police “on the ground” they can only do what they can.
Something needs to be done and it’s no wonder Ellenbrook has taken the name of “Ellenbronx”.
Who will want to come and live here?
