Atheist we don’t need

IT is inevitable that Australia would have a female Prime Minister, but another intellectual we would rather do without.

The PM declared herself an intellectual when she stated that God didn’t exist. An intellectual is a person who thrives in the fantasy world of ideas and opinions, being opinionated themselves in the extreme.

The underlying statement of a person who deigns God’s existence is that there can be no one greater or more intelligent than them, giving the atheist an unnecessary huge ego.

It is interesting that Darwin, who unquestionably believed in a god, is touted as the front guy for atheistic evolution, when Darwin, a pigeon breeder, based his theories of evolution on the adaptation of birds’ beaks for their environment, not on the evolution of a new species.

We have seen the pollution and derogation of our planet from atheist materialist greed, which blames humanity instead of atheistic science and wishes to punish humanity with a carbon tax for their short-sighted atheistic avarice.

The unwavering, opinionated prejudges of atheist materialists have led us into wars of unprecedented slaughter in the last century and they are through greed for oil and munitions profits attempting to extend these never-ending wars, inciting hate and prejudice into the rest of this century.

And we have one who follows this dreadful ideology leading the country.

Gee V Nowall of North Beach - I think you've just been 'told' - Sounds like you deserve Tony Rabbit as a 'leader' - but I'm sure that I don't - still I don't think he stands a chance in hell. (You'd like him cos he's a Christian, he said so, but its not in writing)

Just as it is equally absurd to propose that an objection to the idea that unicorns exist would somehow cause individuals to behave in this manner. To the contrary, it has been argued that individuals, who do not believe in a god, and as a result, in most cases, do not believe in paradise after death, are less quick to undertake actions that may result in him, or his fellow man meeting an untimely end. Never, has an individual killed in the name of atheism, because, as you should now be able to see, it is not an ideology or way of life.

Darwin, who did not as Newall purports believe in a god, is responsible for both the theory of evolution as well as the theory of natural selection, for which Newall seems to be getting confused. These two theories form the scientific basis for an explanation of how life on this planet has come to be in its present state. It has absolutely nothing to do with atheism and much more to do with scientific fact.

It was with great disbelief that I read the comments of V. Newall on the 13th July ‘Atheist we don’t need’, commenting on Julia Gillard’s announcement that she did not believe in god. Setting aside V. Newall’s false and somewhat offensive assertion that being an intellectual somehow denotes ones belief or disbelief in god, I was truly amazed at the assorted shortcomings that Newall attributes to atheism and those who ‘follow this dreadful ideology’.

Firstly let me clarify what it means to be an atheist, as Newall seems to have conceived his very own understanding. Atheism is a negative position taken towards the argument for the existence of a god, and not a thing more. To suggest that a refutation of the argument for the existance of a supernatural being somehow predisposes, or as Newall asserts, actually results in, individuals carrying out atrocities or destroying the environment is absurd.

Where to begin. Lets start with the how you equate being an intellectual to being atheist. It is somewhat insulting to faithful Christians scholars who have dedicated their lives to learning and thinking to suggest that they live in a fantasy world. I suspect that this is simply insecurity brought on by your own intellectual deficiency.

Next you start talking about designing your own God, claiming that those that do this believe they are the most intelligent people on earth, and then make a bizarre reference to atheists - who by definition do not believe in God.

He is not hateful just ignorant. I may not agree with her but at least this Prime Minister is honest about her beliefs which is more than I can say for previous ones who show they go to a church and then in the next breath condone going to war.

You only have to look at the major world warmongering player to see who the hypocrites are.

Ha!

Wow! Hate much? Sorry to burst your little bubble V. Newall, but here in the states it's the conservative, right wing, religious sect that is responsible for the most of environmentally destructive projects that happen. After all, why should the religious care one bit for this planet since this life is nothing special to them. This life is meaningless because as soon as they die they think they're going to go to live with their imaginary friend in the sky.

You don't want a PM who thinks?

You want a PM who accepts bronze age myths of a talking snake, giants, men who live 900+ years and a man living in a fish, without thinking. Not to mention the obscene idea of a "God the Father" who thinks that child sacrifice will somehow save mankind from its "sins". And let's not forget the ghoulish and cannibalistic ritual of "drinking the blood" and "eating the flesh" of this sacrificed "God the Son".

Give me a PM who has the brains to reject these absurd and repulsive notions any day.

^^^^ What Z said.

to V Newall.

Where do I begin?

Charles Darwin did not believe in god and he did exactly point out that new species were evolved from other species. The beaks were just the beginning. Read a real book sometime.

Your petty mindedness is quite typical of your ilk. You see only what you want to see and you have no idea what is real and what is fantasy. Your rant says it all.

Your need to defend god is bemusing. If your god is real don't you think he/she can look after him/herself.

What a breath of fresh air to have an Atheist intellectual as prime minister rather than someone who openly offers his Christian views to Australians. Remember only about one third of Australians are Christian. Hardly a majority in my book.

V. Newall, I feel very sad for you. You seem to have a closed mind, a bigoted attitude, a sheltered worldview and a pitiful existence.

the unwavering opinionated 'prejudges' (i think you mean prejudices - how ironic). ironic also that you accuse atheists - individuals who only claim to not believe in god(s) of being prejudiced. well, i suppose we're at least prejudiced against all gods. not to mention the audacity to insinuate that religion apparently has no part in 'unprecedented slaughter and war'. another stiking example of relgous ignorance.
