Bonds forged in school blaze

SATURDAY night’s fire at Mt Lawley Primary School can only be described as a tragedy.

The community has lost an important piece of its heritage, with the school celebrating its centenary in March this year.

More than 600 people turned out for this centenary event, which gives an insight into the significance this school holds for many.

This loss will be strongly felt by not only those in the immediate school community, but also by those who have been involved with the school in the past.

Police believe the fire was deliberately lit, with the Arson Squad’s experts now investigating.

While whoever is responsible for this senseless act has destroyed more than 80 per cent of the school’s buildings, they have only succeeded in one thing - strengthening the bond between the school and wider community, who will work together to overcome this adversity.
