What do you mean you don

Teacher/student personality clashes. I have seen it happen with two of my children (don’t want to reveal which ones - you never know who is reading…)

It’s difficult and bound to happen.

I have conducted a scientific study (well…I asked my friends) and they all agreed they all had at least one difficult year with a teacher they clashed with.

Mine was when I was 11.

I had a racist, sexist teacher who would shout at us and slam rulers on our desks during quiet time for a laugh.

Forget the school bully - he was the scariest of them all. One unfortunate girl had the initials MT and he took great delight in renaming her Empty for the entire year.

Looking back, I wish I’d stood up for her. She was painfully shy.

Now, I am in two minds about this.

Did it make me stronger? Or did it give me a bad attitude towards school?

I can’t say for sure.

But as a parent, watching your child go through it is very difficult.

I realise personality clashes are bound to happen… but the mother in me wants to shrilly demand:

Why don’t you like him/her? He/she is lovely, wonderful and a great kid. YOU on the other hand…

But the grown up in me realises this would be ridiculous, counter productive and see me labelled as one of THOSE parents.

I guess the only solution is to reassure the child, monitor the situation as closely as possible and count down the school days til the end of the year - approximately 61.
