Bit late notice, but if you're bummin' around this weekend, or even tonight, you might want to wander by the Astor Cinema on Beaufort Street, Mt Lawley. That's where the 2008 Revelation Perth International Film Festival is playing this weekend. Actually, the film festival started a week ago - July 3 - but I forgot to mention it.

You still have a chance, this weekend only, to watch some awesome Australian and international feature films and documentaries and there is even an animation showcase featuring short animated films. So far I can recommend Hell on Wheels, Last American Freakshow and I hear Island of Lost Souls is a cool Danish kids movie - very Harry Potter-esque.

If you're going to go to the movies and you have even half a brain in your head I advise you bypass the latest Mike Myers schlock (he makes me want to gauge my eyes out with a blunt spoon) and take in a film or doco that might actually engage those little grey brain cells. You can even support the Australian/West Australian film industry by watching The Tumbler - a suspense-drama starring Gary Sweet. Yes I know, Gary Sweet, but really kids, The Tumbler is meant to be good. Plus they're advertising the film with cute little chocolate bricks. Chocolate advertising gets me in every goddam time.

PS - David Stratton is presenting a 2 day 'Masterclass' this weekend (as part of the festival) at UWA. Tickets are available from SAE. I'm a big Movie Show/At The Movies fan but my loyalty lies with Margs. I can't stand David. He's too stuffy. But if pompousity is what you love then call SAE on 1800 723 338 and see if they have tickets available.
