THE banks of the river in Maylands and East Perth will be transformed into an outdoor gallery next weekend.

The City of Bayswater Autumn River Festival will stretch along the river from Bayswater to East Perth on March 27 and 28.

The fourth “Artists on the Walkpath” runs on the Toni Di Scerni riverside path from Bardon Park, Maylands, to Banks Reserve, East Perth, and will feature the work of local artists.

Temporary artwork installations have been created by artists as part of the festival, using the local environment as their inspiration.

Bayswater Mayor Terry Kenyon said the project aimed to provide art for the enjoyment, surprise and interest of the community, while promoting artists in the area.

“This is another fantastic free event that allows people to enjoy a variety of art works beyond the confines of a gallery,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity to take a leisurely stroll along the picturesque riverside path and enjoy something different and engaging.

“All the artists have ensured their art works don’t harm the environment.

“Going out for a walk also has health benefits, meaning you can enjoy some physical stimulation from the light exercise and mental stimulation from the inspiring art works.”

Professional artists, arts workers, emerging artists and art students are involved in the event, including Jo Darbyshire, Zoe Carter, Gabby Mazalevski, Richard Fouldes, John Greeuw, Chris Reimer, Rebecca Sheardown, Josie Flynn, Eva Fernandez, Helena Bogucki, Giovanni Di Dio and Melissa Hurd.

Parking will be available along the foreshore at Bardon Park and Banks Reserve.
