THE Wizard of Oz will cast its magic on Kings Park next month during the January school holidays.

The production - presented by Be Active and Prompt Corner - features Perth actors Nick Pages-Oliver, St John Cowcher and Daniel Buckle in the roles of Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion as they travel along the yellow brick road to the city of Oz.

Prompt Corner managing director Diana Waldron - who is this year celebrating her City Beach-based production company's 50th birthday - said audiences could expect a nostalgic return to old-fashioned entertainment, with children encouraged to dress up as their favourite characters from the enchanting, timeless story.

“It's a mixture of words, drama, singing and dancing with audience participation - people can come up and meet the cast afterwards if they wish,” Waldron said.

“There's nothing like the joy of seeing something live.”

But before the show gets on the road, Waldron is holding auditions for the munchkin roles. Children must be aged from six and have some singing and dancing experience.

The Wizard of Oz is at Saw Avenue Amphitheatre, Kings Park & Botanic Garden, from January 6-22 at 4.30pm daily (except Mondays). Bookings through Ticketmaster.

For munchkin audition information, phone 9385 9456 during office hours by December 16.
