MONDAY heralds the beginning of Chinese New Year festivities, with the Year of the Dragon promising a year filled with success and happiness.
The Chinese zodiac doesn't mention change and that in itself is a point to be celebrated by the enduring head chef at Yu restaurant, Pat Cheong, who has thrilled fine-diners with his Cantonese cuisine since the establishment opened at the Burswood Entertainment Complex in 2006.
Yu, part of a suite of high-ranking restaurants at the complex, considers the prolonged partnership of its head chef with venue manager Daniel Man as a good part of the reason for the restaurant’s good standing.
Mr Cheong has created a nine-course traditional banquet menu for Chinese New Year, with each dish symbolising a different blessing for the New Year and each immaculately presented as a work of art.
Among the authentic signature dishes on the special menu are braised whole coral trout in XO sauce with quail eggs, stir fried lobster with fresh ginger and spring onions and Tasmanian salmon tossed with Chinese pickled salad.
The banquet is available from January 23 to 29.
Yu is open for lunch and dinner.
