Eat Greek

AS if 50 traditional home-style Greek dishes were not enough on a value-for-money night out.

The trendy Eat Greek Restaurant, perched on a boardwalk overlooking the Swan River at the Aquarama Marina in East Fremantle, offers diners a traditional experience to remember, with  Greek dancing and plate smashing on Friday and Saturday nights.

The warm, casual dining atmosphere complements the superb views at sunset, and the friendly, efficient service.

But as any discerning lover of Mediterranean food would attest, it’s the food and wine that really counts.

And they will not be disappointed, as the huge buffet has all the selections one would expect, including Greek, Mediterranean, octopus and potato salads, and a selection of summer fruits.

As on any good Greek menu, the Eat Greek seafood selection is as varied as it is tasty.

You would have to have a huge appetite to get through all the hot foods, but the calamari rings in tangy sauce, and the salt and pepper calamari are highly recommended.

There are many gourmet delights that tempt you to go back for more – the chicken souvlaki is a must and the curried chicken pieces are “moreish.”

The roast lamb with gravy, and moussaka, were very nice and were  perfectly complemented by a 2008 shiraz.

The squeals of excitement from my partner could be heard at tables around us when our waitress, Molly, informed us about the selection of 12 desserts on offer at the sweets buffet.

The eyes were most definitely bigger than the stomach when we eventually get there – baklava, brandy pudding, Greek biscuits and much more.

Even better was the self-service, soft serve ice cream machine to finish off a pleasant meal and an entertaining evening.

The quality & variety of food was excellent. There was not a single dish that I would not recommend, all tasted different but very nice. Place was crowded but that just added to the fun. Enjoyed the Greek dancing and breaking of plates. Both the service and decor was average but the food made up for that. Will most certainly return and would recommend to anyone. Be warned though, you will leave the venue in a very uncomfortable state if you try to taste everything!

We went on Wednesday night & the only down side to the night was our table was far too close to the one behind us & I was at the end of the table & everyone had to get up & move to the end of the table everytime I needed to get out which disturbed their dinner & when I came back my cutlery had been removed & someone elses unfinished plate had been removed. The food was really lovely though top marks for that. I will bring my family back but request a not so squishy table. Thank you
