MURDA-US Productions is an independent music promotional touring company and record label founded by Ben ‘Gunn Boy’ Garside (23), from Rockingham and Sean ‘Shock’ Cubitt (22), of Wilson.
The rap artists will bring the national Heatwave Festival to Perth for the first time on Friday, January 20.
Performers will include American heavyweight artists D12, Tech N9ne, Obie Trice, Chamillionaire and Krizz Kaliko, as well the determined duo themselves.
Garside said the increasing growth of the WA rap and hip hop scene over the last five years had prompted him to establish MURDA-US Productions.
“It takes a ridiculous amount of hard work, determination and, in my honest opinion, a firm knowledge of what you’re dealing with,” he said.
“There's a lot of money, time and effort put in from everyone involved and there is no way I would be tackling a task (Heatwave Festival) as big as this if I didn’t have a life-long passion for it.
“It takes a determination that I didn’t know I had in me and when you’re doing something you love, no matter if you’ve been up for two days buried in paperwork, stopping, taking a break or quitting just aren’t options – this is the next step of a much bigger picture.”
Last year, Garside and Cubitt ran their first professional event as MURDA-US Productions, in association with American independent rap and hip hop label Funk Volume, to schedule an extra date on its Australian tour.
“I felt that recruiting, promoting and headlining Funk Volume’s number one artist Hopsin in a rare Perth performance was a lucrative proposition and direction for MURDA-US Productions to debut and emerge as a power player,” Garside said.
Now working tirelessly on bringing Heatwave Festival to Perth, Garside is optimistic the hard work will be “an undoubtedly successful investment”.
Heatwave Festival is at Challenge Stadium on Friday, January 20 from 4pm.
